Weekend Warrior Project: Filling the Blinker Fluid Reservoir

Blinker Danger

A week ago I was following a BMW when he suddenly changed lanes three times.  He was passing cars left and right before swerving to make it onto the exit ramp before the lane disappeared.  As I pondered how his tires stuck to the asphalt with such tenacity, I was struck by the lack of blinking from his turn signals to warn the rest of us about his pending lane maneuvers.  I then realized a quick maintenance procedure we all need to perform regularly could have kept us all safer.

a drop of blinker fluid is used every time your blinker blinks

Filling the blinker fluid reservoir should have been taught during drivers education, but it seems that lesson has often been overlooked ever since drivers ed was taken out of the school curriculum.  Did you know that a drop of blinker fluid is used every time your blinker blinks?  Simply driving to the grocery store every Sunday can consume a quart in a year!  Once the blinker fluid reservoir in your vehicle runs dry, the blinky lights on your car will no longer blink.

An Easy Repair

Remedying an empty blinker fluid reservoir is an easy automotive issue to resolve.  Head on down to your friendly local auto parts store (FLAPS) and ask the associate behind the counter for the recommended blinker fluid for your vehicle.  With so many makes and models of vehicles available these days, they will naturally have to consult their computer system to ascertain which blinker fluid to recommend.  It is imperative to know exactly what year, make, color and model of vehicle you are driving.  You will also likely need to know if you have the two door or four door version, the four cylinder engine or the six cylinder engine, the interior trim color, and whether or not your vehicle is equipped with the standard or upgraded sound package.

Once you have the blinker fluid, take it home.  Pop open the hood of your vehicle and locate the blinker fluid reservoir.  It should be clearly labeled, but if you are having trouble finding it, a quick internet search should help you locate it.  Simply search for “blinker fluid joke.”  That should clear up where to find the blinker fluid reservoir in your vehicle.
